Chili Cook-off

ASH FLAT — The Spring River Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a chili cook-off at the Ash Flat Eagle Fest in the Ash Flat Ballpark. The registration fee is $30. A cooks meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m., and the cook-off’s official start time is 9 a.m. Each contestant must cook 2 gallons of chili, and cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places.

Fundraiser Concert

BATESVILLE — The Ozark Foothills FilmFest will hold its annual fundraising event at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth’s Restaurant. Proceeds from Steppin’ Out With the Side Street Steppers will support the annual film festival and the annual T Tauri Movie Camp, a summer artist residency project offering video-production workshops for kids and teens. SEARCY — White County Extension Homemakers are looking for contestants for the White County Fair Queen Contest, to be held at 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds. The Junior Queen Contest is for teen girls ages 13-16, and the Senior Queen Contest is for young women ages 17-21. There is an optional photogenic contest. HEBER SPRINGS — The Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon in the Heber Springs Community Center. AARP Smart Driver Class

HORSESHOE BEND — An AARP Smart Driver Class will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Horseshoe Bend Library. The fee is $15 for AARP members with an AARP ID card and $20 for nonmembers. FLORAL — The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville Adult Education Department is partnering with Midland Elementary School to offer classes from 3-5 p.m. Mondays in the computer lab on the elementary campus in Floral. Lyon College Faculty Exhibition

BATESVILLE — The Lyon College Kresge Gallery, in the historic Alphin building, has opened the 2015-2016 season with the Faculty Exhibition, featuring work from Dustyn Bork, associate professor of art, and Sarah Martin, newly appointed artist in residence. BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Art Department will display the artwork of Nancy Dunaway through Sept. 28 in the England Center Art Gallery at ASU-Beebe. Geocache Scavenger Hunt

Historic Games Day

POWHATAN — Powhatan Historic State Park will hold a free Historic Games Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26. BATESVILLE — Dan Nash, a professional mountain guide, will teach two survival-training classes Sept. 26 in Room 902 of the Nursing Allied Health Building at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville, along with field exercises outdoors. Basic Outdoor Survival will meet from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and participants need to bring a water bottle, two bandanas and a steel or magnesium fire striker.
