Video review scheduled in train-death case

TEXARKANA -- Law enforcement officials are scheduled to review a video Monday of the fatal accident in which an Ashdown woman was run over by a Kansas City Southern Railway train.

The review of the Kansas City Southern Railway video is part of the investigation into the April 2 death of Mary Sue Blair. Blair, 53, apparently lay down across the railroad tracks in front of the southbound train.

The video should provide additional information about what happened, Arkansas State Police Sgt. Robert Wilson said. Wilson and Deputy Prosecutor Al Smith will review the video with railroad officials.

"It will give us more information and to see if anything else might have happened," Wilson said. "We will look at it and see what it reveals and make the report more conclusive."

The railroad crew spotted Blair lying across the railroad but not in time to stop the train, according to a report by Ashdown Police Chief Mark Ardwin.

The Little River County sheriff's office was contacted by the Kansas City Southern Railway crew at 8:44 p.m. Blair was pronounced dead at the scene by Little River County Coroner Roddy Smith.

Blair's body was transported to the state Crime Laboratory for autopsy. Wilson said a representative with the crime lab said the autopsy report should be forwarded to him next week.

Blair's body was found about 150 yards south of the Locke Street crossing in Ashdown.
