Gourd Workshop

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park will offer a Gourd Workshop from 9 a.m. to noon. Join the park interpreter and learn how to shape and decorate these unusual plants and create things such as birdhouses and bowls to take home. Participants, who must be 18 or older, are asked to dress appropriately, as some materials may stain. Admission is $20 per person, and early registration is required. Gospel Singing

Grief and Loss Support Group

JACKSONVILLE — The Caring Hearts Grief and Loss Support Group will meet from 10-11 a.m. at the Christian Church Jacksonville building, 200 E. Martin. Main Street Farmers Market

BATESVILLE — The Main Street Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon the first and third Saturdays of each month in the Pocket Park on Main Street. This Saturday’s market will offer summer squash, blueberries, beets, cherry tomatoes and early tomatoes, lettuce, sweet peppers, cucumbers, new potatoes and fresh herbs, along with honey and farm eggs from free-ranging chickens. The market also offers baked goods, art and crafts. BATESVILLE — The Ozark Foothills Literacy Project will offer a tutor training workshop at 1 p.m. in the Literacy Project’s new office, 156 S. Third. St. The Literacy Project, which serves Fulton, Sharp, Izard and Independence counties, teaches adults who are learning to read and adults who are learning English. The Literacy Project relies on trained volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring for its adult students. Arkansas Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial

BEEBE — The Arkansas Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial will be on display July 1-8 at the intersection of Dewitt Henry Drive and ASU-Beebe Boulevard, beside the Advanced Technology and Allied Health Building at Arkansas State University-Beebe. The memorial was founded by Rob Hopper of Wynne as a tribute to his son, who died Jan. 26, 2005, in western Iraq after his helicopter crashed. The memorial is also a tribute to all Arkansas natives who have fallen in the line of duty. Displaying the memorial is one of several ways the Arkansas Run for the Fallen organization honors heroes. Civil War Exhibition

FAIRFIELD BAY — Fought in Earnest: Civil War Arkansas, a free traveling exhibit chronicling major historical events in Arkansas between 1861 and 1865, will be displayed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and June 21-23, at the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center, 130 Village Lane. The exhibit contains 15 free-standing banners that showcase images from the Arkansas History Commission’s holdings. Original documents, photographs, maps, drawings, paintings and artifacts illustrate the story of the Civil War in Arkansas.

Third Thursday Farmers Market

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Third Thursday Farmers Market will be open from 9-11 a.m. June 16 and July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15 and Oct. 20 in the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center Courtyard, 130 Village Lane. The market features plants, produce and herbs. Setup is at 8 a.m., and there are no vendor fees.

Ozarka College Registration Days

MELBOURNE — Ozarka College will host registration days for new and returning students who need to complete their fall enrollment. Attendees can take placement tests, meet with an adviser, register for classes, get assistance in applying for financial aid and meet with other staff from Ozarka College. T Tauri Movie Camp Registration

BATESVILLE — The T Tauri Movie Camp, which offers a wide variety of video-production workshops for aspiring filmmakers up to the age of 18, is accepting registrations for the 12th annual summer youth program, which will take place July 18-30 in Batesville. Workshops vary from two to 3 1/2 days in length and include Script to Screen Narrative Filmmaking, Hometown Documentary, Depicting Zombies and a new offering, BrickFilms (stop-motion animation utilizing LEGO characters). Summer Reading Program and Story Hour

BATESVILLE — Registration is open for the Independence County Library’s Summer Reading Program, for preschoolers to sixth-graders. Register at the library, 368 E. Fulton County Fair Booth Rental

SALEM — The Fulton County Fair Association is accepting reservations for commercial booth space for the 2016 county fair. Booths will set up in the new Salem Civic Center from 2-5 p.m. July 25 and remain in place until 7 p.m. July 30. Inside booths are 10-by-10 feet for $60, plus $5 for electricity. ASUN Summer Hours

NEWPORT — Arkansas State University-Newport’s hours of operation have shifted to its summer schedule: ASUN’s campuses in Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, through Aug. 11. With the exception of White River Hall on the Newport campus, all ASUN offices and locations will be closed Fridays. Events that are already set to take place on Fridays during the summer will go on as scheduled. ASUN will resume normal operating hours Aug. 15.

AARP Smart Driver Course

Lyrical Lessons: Music in the Time of Davidsonville

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park will present Lyrical Lessons: Music in the Time of Davidsonville from 7-8 p.m. June 25 at the park, which is a 15-minute drive south of Pocahontas on Highway 166. Join the park interpreter outside the new Visitor Center for an exploration of some of the many ways music helped shape life during the time of Davidsonville. Lawn chairs, sunscreen and water are recommended to help beat the summer heat. In case of inclement weather, activities will be moved inside the Visitor Center. Youth Fishing Derby

NEWPORT — The 2016 Youth Fishing Derby will take place June 28 in Lockwood Park on Malcolm Avenue. Concord Parade and Fun Day

CONCORD — The Concord Parade and Fun Day will take place July 2. The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Entries will line up at the Concord Gym parking lot, and the parade route will be from the school to the city park, with all activities held at the park. A concession stand will serve barbecue, hot dogs, drinks and ice cream. The day will also feature a giant water slide, music by the Gaylon Sandefur Band, door prizes, games and lots of fun for young and old. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs. HEBER SPRINGS — The Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce will present one of the largest fireworks displays in Arkansas over Greers Ferry Lake on July 2. All are invited to view the Fireworks Extravaganza on the shores of Sandy Beach in Heber Springs or by boat. There will be kids’ activities and food vendors, and live music will start at 7 p.m., followed by the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., accompanied by choreographed music on KFFB 106.1 FM. School-Bus Driver Training

BATESVILLE — The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville will offer a training course for those who want to pursue a commercial driver’s license with a school-bus endorsement. The in-class training will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 12 and 13, with a written test to be taken July 14 or 15 at the Independence County Library, 368 E.
