Arkansas woman dies after being struck by tractor-trailer on highway

A 25-year-old Arkansas woman was struck by a tractor-trailer and killed Wednesday night, state police said.

According to a preliminary crash report, a 2017 Freightliner was headed south on U.S. 167 north of Batesville in Independence County when Phenelopy Granger "walked into" the vehicle shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Authorities said the Batesville resident was hit by the Freightliner's trailer and died. No other injuries were reported.

Conditions at the time of the crash were said to be clear and dry.

At least 434 people have died on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary state police data.
