Wrecks in state kill 5 people, police say

Four people were killed on Arkansas highways over the weekend and into Monday morning, and a fifth person was reported killed in a motorcycle crash earlier this month, according to the Arkansas State Police.

A 24-year-old man who ran a stop sign on an Arkansas highway was killed Monday morning when his vehicle was hit by a Peterbilt truck in Clay County east of Corning, state police say.

Anthony Hibbing of Campbell, Mo., was driving south in a 2006 Ford Focus on U.S. 62 shortly after 6:30 a.m. when he traveled through the road's intersection with Arkansas 135 without stopping, according to a preliminary crash report.

Authorities wrote that Hibbing's car was then struck by a 2006 Peterbilt headed north on Arkansas 135, and he suffered fatal injuries. No one else was reported hurt.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

A 66-year-old man was killed after the pickup he was driving on Interstate 40 struck a barrier wall and overturned, state police said.

The single-vehicle wreck happened about 8 a.m. Sunday as Phillip Yarbro of Forrest City was traveling west on the interstate near Palestine in St. Francis County, according to a report.

Authorities say Yarbro lost control of a 1996 Dodge Ram, causing it to strike a barrier wall and overturn.

Yarbro suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. A passenger inside the pickup, 69-year-old Gay Yarbro, was injured, police said.

Weather conditions were clear and I-40 was dry at the time, the report states.

A 50-year-old Little Rock man died after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Interstate 630 on foot, state police said.

According to a preliminary crash report, Ralph Rogers was hit by a 2005 Mitsubishi about 9:45 p.m. Saturday after he "darted" south across the interstate near Fair Park Boulevard.

Elijah Blackwell, a 25-year-old passenger in the vehicle, was injured in the crash, police said.

Blackwell and Rogers were both taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock to receive treatment for their injuries, according to the report. Rogers died there on Sunday, police said.

Conditions at the time of the crash were said to be clear and dry.

An 11-year-old boy was struck and killed Saturday morning when he crossed the street in front of a vehicle on an Arkansas road, state police say.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., a 2014 GMC was traveling east on County Road 6060 in Madison County, about a half-mile west of Arkansas 23, according to a preliminary crash report.

The Huntsville boy who was walking on the side of the road turned left, crossed in front of the vehicle and was struck, authorities wrote. He sustained fatal injuries.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry at the time of the collision.

A 60-year-old woman was killed in a single-motorcycle wreck on an Arkansas highway earlier this month, state police said.

The motorcycle was traveling south on Arkansas 25 in Cleburne County about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 7 when its driver, 59-year-old Bobby F. Crider, "failed to negotiate a curve," according to a report released Saturday.

The Harley-Davidson then overturned, killing passenger Renea Bradley, authorities said. Crider was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital.

Bradley was a Winneconne, Wis., resident, and Crider is from Quitman, police said.
