A Batesville woman died early Saturday after being ejected from a vehicle in Independence County, according to a preliminary report from Arkansas State Police.
Ashley Carter, 28, was driving east in the 600 block of Oak Grove Road in Batesville around 12:30 a.m. when her vehicle left the roadway on a curve and went into a ditch, according to a state police report.
The 2005 Mercury Mariner she was driving overturned, and Carter was ejected, the report said.
The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of the crash, state police reported.
The death was the first fatality in a vehicle crash of the year, according to preliminary figures.
