Teen dies after pickup flips 5 times on Arkansas highway, police say

A 17-year-old boy died Sunday in southern Arkansas after he was ejected from a pickup that flipped several times, authorities said.

The crash happened at 12:20 a.m. on Arkansas 129 in the Union County city of Strong, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary report.

Troopers wrote that the teen was driving a 2007 GMC pickup south on the highway near James Road when he lost control of the truck.

The GMC veered off the road, and as the driver overcorrected, the truck crossed the centerline and overturned five times, the report states.

State police said the youth was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

At least 347 people have died in crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
